Acupuncture is a type of Traditional Chinese medicine that dates back over 2,000 years. This approach to the body is a very different view from Western medicine. While often Western medicine focuses on treating chronic pain through medicine, acupuncture is an all-natural approach to healing your body.
It is based on the Chinese holistic view of nature and the universe. This philosophical principle compares the human body to the universe; for example, the heart is like the sun, the lungs are the atmosphere, and the digestive tract is the soil. By studying the universe holistically, it’s believed that one can better understand how the human body functions.
Unlike pain medication, acupuncture treats the root cause. See how we treat bodily ailments and conditions through acupuncture at Chiropractic Naturally…
How Acupuncture Works
Chinese wisdom sees the physical body as a collection of energy fields. It is viewed that the body if in good health, will have optimal energy flow. And conversely, if the body is in a state of turmoil or disease, there are energetic blockages or clogs. These can cause tension and pain.
Enter acupuncture. Acupuncture is a technique for balancing the flow of energy, which is also known as “Qi” (pronounced “chee”). Qi is our life force. Through acupuncture, tiny needles are inserted in the skin along various points on the 12 meridians, or channels, of the human body.
The needles are small that most people do not even feel them being inserted. Once the needles are placed, they help to rebalance the flow of energy which relieves the aches and pains.
What to Expect with Acupuncture
Most sessions last about 30 minutes, although the initial consultation and evaluation may take up to an hour. Generally, between 20 to 30 needles are used in a typical treatment. These needles will remain in place from around 20 to 25 minutes. You should feel very minimal pain or discomfort as you lie and relax during acupuncture.
The amount of sessions needed depends on your ailment and the severity of the condition being treated. Although, most people do feel relaxed and even energized after acupuncture treatment, it may take a couple of sessions to for you to feel the full benefits of acupuncture.
